So… Not to make a big deal or anything… but, WE HAVE PROBABLY MET OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say probably because we have not received confirmation from AIM yet, but by our count there is a little over $21500 in our account! If you’ve been meaning to send a donation, but haven’t gotten around to it yet, despair not my friend. Emmy and I have spent a decent chunk of change on things like vaccinations and other travel expenses. These are reimbursed by AIM, but only if we have an excess of cash in our account.

I am really excited to be done talking about money! Let us then move on to more important things, like prayer requests and trip preparations.

Prayer request: In a little less than a month Emmy and I will move back to STL for about 2 weeks, then fly out from there. Before we get back we will both be finishing up school and, Lord willing, graduate. I have all but finished up with classes, but Emmy’s nursing work continues unabated. Fun fact: Emmy passed her NCLEX prep test (required for graduation). The test predicts how likely you are to pass the NCLEX after graduation, Emmy is sitting with a 97% prediction of passing her boards! She is pretty dang smart. After we finish class and get all graduated, we will have about a week and a half to move all of our stuff into a storage unit or parental basement. Then come the tearful fare-thee-wells. Then we drive back to the greater Glen-Ed area. Then we travel to Indiana for Amber and Alex’s wedding. Then we come back to Glen Carbon/ Edwardsville. Then we pray as Emmy PASSES her NCLEX. Then we get on a plane and fly 7,931 miles from St. Louis to Kampala, Uganda! We’re so close… Well not geographically, but temporally!

Thank you all for your prayers of support!

Our Edwardsville Trivia night was a rousing success. The event raised over $5200 for Emmy and I’s mission to Uganda. This puts us at about $22000  just a scant $3000 short of our $25000 goal. Emmy and I have learned so much about God’s amazing providence during this time. God has encouraged us through our family and friends to lean in and trust Him. We are praying that his spirit will continue to graciously support us throughout our trip. At the same time, we thank God for your continued prayers for the mission, both now as we wrap up fund raising, and later on when we are in Uganda.

P.S. We will update this post with some pictures later this week!

Our fundraiser last night at Trinity Lutheran Church was a terrific success!  The dinner was attended by over 150 people and we were excited that many folks from Center Grove Presbyterian Church were able to join in the fellowship and food.

Mucho, Mucho Gracias to soup chef Mike VanBeek and his mighty army of helpers and servers (his & Jan’s Bible Study group and the Grimm vegetable choppers!)  You can’t have soup without dessert and the Adult Choir at Trinity and various volunteers put on their aprons and baked up a storm of scrumptious desserts – Thank you all!

So after matching funds from Thrivent Financial, just over $1,500 was contributed to our Uganda Mission fund.  Wow!  God gathered his people together for fellowship and food and our soup bowl is overflowing with His blessings!

Emmy and I just want to thank everyone for their help.

We also want to thank our parents for being there on the night of, to help out and make sure everything went swimmingly; and it sounds like it did!

This post is a special Thank You to the Edwardsville division of the Association to Raise Funds for Aaron and Emmy to Travel to Uganda on a Mission (Edw. ARFAETUM for short). This team is composed of several Core Members (Terry & Sherry Brakhane and Roger & Christina Gunther), Associates (Angela Ferando, Josh Gunther, Brenda Leitner, Bonnie Miller, Marvin Brakhane, Center Grove Presbyterian Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church), and Special Events Coordinator (Mike VanBeek). To date, our Business Partners include: Crystal Garden, Gillihan Concrete, Inc., State Farm-Carol Vangeison, Edward Jones-Matthew Johnson, Norma’s Produce and Greenhouses, Legacy Screen Printing-Connie Plocher, Thrivent Financial and The Bank of Edwardsville.  Without these organizations and individuals Emmy and I would undoubtedly be stuck.

We are enormously grateful for each and every person who has or will help to support our mission. God in His infinite and indecipherable understanding has seen fit to provide us with wonderfully generous friends and family. This generosity is not just financial; many people have given abundantly of their time and energy in planning, coordinating, and encouraging Emmy and I. We pray and trust that God will repay this kindness, because we are woefully unable to show even a modicum of the appropriate amount of appreciation. God bless.

P.S. Don’t forget come to Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday 3/13/13 (tomorrow!) hungry for soup. Mike VanBeek has been cooking up a storm and it’s going to be scrumptious. Also, you can sign up on the right side of the page for email updates!

Hello again everyone,

We are fresh off our first official fundraiser and blessed by God in ways we never expected. The Uganda Love this Date Night was a rampaging success bringing in over 800 dollars. Moreover, God has seen fit to provide over $10,000 for our mission so far. I try not to think about it too much because I have a slight fear that I am still suffering under purple spot madness from my yellow fever vaccine. But so far, no spots! Emmy and I are overwhelmingly grateful for all of your prayers and support as we gear up to go. I have a special request that everyone could pray for Emmy as her nursing work has really started to ramp up in the last weeks. We have much work ahead of us, but God has even been gracious there. We have wonderful families and friends who keep finding new ways to help support us.

Coming up on March 10th Emmy and I will be giving a short presentation to Center Grove Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville. Then on March 13th Mike Van Beek has put together a wonderful soup dinner from 5 to 6:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. Please come out and thank him in person for this great gift, as Emmy and I will be in Jackson, TN for the dinner. Also, someone grab me a to go bowl of soup.

We are also gearing up for two Trivia Nights in April. There is now an official flier for the Edwardsville trivia night (Click here for the flier). We hope to see everyone there. Pro tip: brush up on your Ugandan trivia, it might just come in handy. Trivia Night Edwardsville is April 12th and Trivia Night Jackson is April 20th. Both nights will be a great opportunity to come out and prove that you are smarter than someone else is. We will have door prizes at both events so everyone has a chance to win even if they don’t know who holds the current record for wickets and runs in a single match of Cricket. (That will not be a question, I promise) The best part of both of these events is the opportunity to share both fun and fellowship with your friends and family. Feel free (heck, feel encouraged) to invite anyone you like to a trivia night or the soup dinner. Emmy and I look forward to meeting bunches of new people!

As I said earlier, please be in prayer for Emmy as she does school, work, and fundraising. Also, we have some other interesting opportunities coming up with AIM and would appreciate prayers for guidance in God’s plan for us as we travel to Uganda. Emmy will be applying for a Ugandan nursing license and this process looks to be a little interesting. Finally, don’t forget to put your email in the box on the left side of the page to receive updates straight to your inbox!

Emmy and I were blessed with a weekend at home. Though “home” might be replaced with “fundraising headquarters” pretty easily. Our parents are a great blessing and have a great vision for how best to mobilize support. To that end we have a slew of upcoming events in both Edwardsville and Jackson.

This coming Friday 2/22 at 6:30 we are hosting a date night at City Fellowship Church in Jackson, TN. at thirty dollars a couple it’s a great deal and a good start to any apology (for those men out there who forgot V-day…) In March we have a dinner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville on 3/13 at 5 or 5:30, (thanks to Mike Van Beek for setting us up with this one!)  On 3/16 we will host a Trivia night at City Fellowship in Jackson. We will have another Trivia night in Edwardsville on 4/12. On top of all of these events we will be partnering with Chick-Fil-a and Maggie Moos (both in Jackson) for fundraising nights, TBA. Emmy has demonstrated some pretty impressive organizing skills by helping to get all of this set up and doing nursing  clinicals three times a week. As you can see we will be busy rallying support for the mission.

To date God has blessed us with about 7500 dollars of the 25000 needed to make the trip. We trust him to guide our support and future plans in accordance with his will. We are so grateful for all of the prayers and help from our friends and family. Don’t forget, if you put your email into the blank on the right side of the page you will receive our updates straight to your inbox! You know you want to! Also, we are in the process of adding an events page!

God bless,
